What Is the Science Behind the SkinPen?
The therapy involved in a SkinPen treatment is known as fibroblast therapy. Fibroblasts are cells of connective tissue all over our bodies. They produce a substance called collagen. The role of collagen is to keep the skin supple and taut.
The SkinPen stimulates the fibroblasts in the tissue, increasing the rate of collagen production through the body’s natural healing process. The SkinPen targets only the treatment areas without causing any damage to tissues in surrounding areas.

Following treatment, the area may feel hot in places with a mild burning sensation. This typically subsides a few hours post procedurally. The area may weep and bleed slightly. Because the plasma gas is focalized and controlled, there is no tissue damage to surrounding areas and it is completely safe to be administered to people with light and medium skin color.
After Treatment
After the SkinPen treatment session, there is no bleeding or bruising and no thinning of skin tissue. You may have to apply an antiseptic cream later, but this is painless.
You may have small dot-like scabs. These will fall off in a week or so and are no cause for concern. Some people report a bit of swelling, but this disappears very soon.
Is there any downtime?
The typical downtime is 1 week. The tiny carbon dots will shed naturally in 5-7 days, depending on the individual’s healing rate. Swelling is noticeable in the first few days as well. To maximize the effects of your treatment it is advised to keep the scabs intact for the length of time before they dispel naturally.
