Dermaplane™

What is Dermaplaning?

Dermaplaning, also known as Epidermal leveling is a gentle, non-invasive form of manual exfoliation of the skin that resurfaces sun-damaged, dull, dehydrated skin. Using a surgical blade, a medical esthetician gently exfoliates the outermost layers of the epidermis to remove dead skin cells, impurities and debris. This encourages the skin to regenerate new skin cells, leaving the complexion smooth, soft and vibrant.

Regular treatments of dermaplaning have been known to:

  • Diminish fine lines
  • Smooth acne scarring
  • Improve skin texture and tone
  • Help to unblock blackheads
  • Temporarily remove facial hair (hair does not grow back thicker)
  • Generate new healthy cell growth
  • Enhance penetration of skin care products

Will Dermaplaning Hurt?

There is no pain associated with dermaplaning, most people find it relaxing. It is a non-invasive treatment and only the dead skin cells on the surface will be removed. Since products will penetrate more easily, we recommend using caution when applying aggressive skin care serums at home for a few days to avoid any irritation.

Will I Have To Take Time Off Work For Healing?

There is no downtime after dermplaning, and you can return to work the same day. We highly recommend a dermaplaning facial before a big event such as a wedding or a reunion due to the smoothing and rejuvenating appearance it produces.

Can I Have A Chemical Peel At The Same Time?

The combination of dermaplaning with a chemical peel is an excellent skincare treatment and one that we recommend to many of our clients. Since dermaplaning removes the dead skin cells that act as a strong barrier against products, the alpha and beta hydroxyl acids in the peel are able to better penetrate into the skin to encourage new cell growth, reduce discoloration, soften fine lines, and minimize the appearance of pores. Since this is a more intensive treatment than the dermaplaning facial there can be 1-2 days of slight skin flaking around the nose and mouth after the treatment.

Won’t The Hairs On The Face Grow Back Thicker?

No. The hair on the face is called Vellous hairs and it is physiologically impossible to grow back thicker. There are two types of hair that grow on our bodies, Vellous and Terminal hair. Vellous hair is the fine, translucent hair that you can find on your cheeks, jaw and neck – often referred to as “peach fuzz”. Terminal hair is thicker, colored hair that grows under the arms, pubic area, legs, eye brows, and mustache and beard for men. Terminal hair we remove with laser hair removal. When Vellous hair is cut the structure of the hair does not become damaged, therefore it is impossible to alter.

Is Dermaplaning Recommended For Acne Skin?

If you suffer from acne and an over production of the sebaceous gland, we do not recommend dermaplaning. For acne prone skin, we recommend Chemical Peels, which is another form of exfoliation and will clear and balance the skin to control sebaceous activity and decrease the formation of acne lesions.

Candela Laser Genesis

Candela Laser Genesis is a treatment for scars, large pores, excessively red skin, and uneven skin texture. It works by using modern laser technology and creates results without pain. The laser prompts the skin to create more collagen, which then in turn creates an improved look of the skin. Your skin will even appear younger.

The process brings back a youthful glow. It can smooth uneven skin and improve the texture. (Changes in texture can come from aging, sun damage, or scarring). It can also minimize the size of pores and improve other minor imperfections. The skin looks more vibrant and has fewer fine lines. Scars are reduced and skin tone looks more even.

Both men and women can benefit from Candela Laser Genesis. Typically, Candela Laser Genesis is done over several treatments. Four to six sessions are normal. They are usually done about three or four weeks apart. The results add up after each session. The laser works by heating the lower levels of the skin, the dermis. The dermis has both collagen and elastin proteins that affect the strength and tone of the skin. The heat from the laser forces more collagen to be created, which then repairs the look of the skin and makes it more supple from the inside. This process can be done all over the face and neck. It may also be used in some cases to treat scars in other areas.

Resolve Laser Skin Rejuvenation

About Resolve Laser Skin Rejuvenation:

The PicoWay Resolve laser or the Candela GentleMax Pro® Alexandrite laser is used to “paint” the skin of the face, chest, arms, hands, or nearly any other area of the body to effectively remove age spots and decrease skin laxity. The laser penetrates the skin, and causes an increase in temperature that leads to an increase in collagen production. This increase in collagen leads to skin tightening and a more youthful look to the skin. The laser is also attracted to the melanin in the age spots and leads to the removal of these lesions. Patients will notice that the age spots being to scab after a few days, and then will fall off. Often times the treatment brings out some new spots, but those too are effectively treated.

Number of treatments:

Patients will notice significant reduction in the number of age spots after one treatment, but three treatments are recommended for optimal skin tightening results and age spot reduction. Sessions are scheduled 4 weeks apart. Patients can return, as needed, for additional treatments.

Appointment Time (may vary):

30 minutes

Downtime:

None. Patient’s will notice some redness for 20-30 minutes after. There will also be scabbing, with eventual falling off, of the age spots over the following week. Patients should avoid direct sun exposure for 2 weeks after treatment. Also, patients should not have had any prolonged sun exposure in the 4 weeks prior to treatment.

Ideal Candidate:

Patients with age spots on the chest, arms, or hands who would like to see overall improvement in the look of their skin in these regions.
